Nedre Strandgate 15: Historical Documentation and Cultural Reuse Study
This report (in Norwegian) explores the history, architectural development, and future potential of Nedre Strandgate 15, one of the last remaining historic waterfront warehouses in Ålesund.
Prepared by Trondheim Works for Sørsida Utvikling AS (SUAS) with support from Kulturrom, the study documents the building’s evolution from its early 1900s origins as Oscar Larsen’s sea warehouse, through phases of rebuilding, extensions, wartime adaptations, and gradual decline.
The report highlights the structure’s cultural heritage value, its unique role as a physical link between Ålesund’s post-fire architecture and the modern expansion of Sørsida, and its potential as a future center for cultural activity. It also outlines planning conditions, existing building status, and examples of temporary cultural activation in the surrounding “Kulturhavna” area.
