Bruges' Kaai Party: Celebration of a Neighbourhood in Motion
On Saturday, May 18th, the Sint-Pieterszuidstreet was transformed into the beating heart of the Kaaidistrict for the very first edition of the Kaai party. This festive day brought together local residents, creative makers, and curious visitors to celebrate the dynamic Kaaiklappers community and to shine a light on the Kaaidistrict as one of Bruges’ future hotspots.
Today still largely monofunctional, the Kaaidistrict is set to write a new story: that of a lively, multifunctional urban neighbourhood where living, working, and enjoying life go hand in hand.
Visitors were treated to a rich variety of activities: from a graffiti street art workshop to painting lucky stones, from a chalk art studio to a dazzling performance by dance school Roorick. Children let loose at the panna football field and the playful “kinderbouillon,” while music lovers enjoyed the sound of bagpipes and the interactive Blockbusters radio, featuring interviews, neighbourhood stories, and music selected by and for local residents. At the information booths, people could learn more about the district’s exciting transformation plans.
The day ended in style with a musical bingo full of energy and connection. The Kaai party was a joyful celebration of a neighbourhood in motion and we were thrilled to be part of it, together with the Kaaiklappers.
