The Regeneration of Rimini’s Historic Marina Station

Rimini Marina today 2025

Rimini’s historic Marina Station, known as the starting point of Europe’s first electric train route to San Marino, will go through a radical transformation. The station, which ceased operations in 1944, will be revitalized as an intercultural hub, bringing together heritage, sustainability, and community participation.

The project “Fiori e tragitti” was officially selected on March 8th 2024 through the Emilia-Romagna Participation Grant. This participatory project will guide the adaptive reuse of the site, ensuring it reflects the needs and aspirations of the community.

The new Marina Station will include:

  • A museum of transport, reminding visitors of the building's historical significance.
  • New cultural and artistic spaces for exhibitions and creative projects.
  • A restaurant, improving the visitors' culinary experience.
  • A redeveloped park, promoting public access and green infrastructure.

By integrating cultural heritage with contemporary urban needs, Rimini’s approach reflects Re-Value’s mission of sustainable urban transformation. The project highlights how participatory urban planning can preserve industrial heritage while creating inclusive, future-oriented spaces.

The first co-design meeting will be held in February 2025, bringing together local residents, associations, and institutions such as Forum Rimini Venture, Volontaromagna, and Il Palloncino Rosso. As the process unfolds, the project aims to set a new standard for community-driven urban regeneration.
