An e-bike and a laser scanner starts mapping a digital twin in Burgas
The National University Centre for Geospatial Research and Technology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski,", supporting the Municipality of Burgas as a partner in Re-Value, has undertaken the task of creating a digital twin of the Seaside Park in Sarafovo, the focal area of the project.
To aid in this work, the researchers deployed a mix of modern technology and well-established mechanics, as they measured with a laser scanner using an electric bike to cover the ground needed. The laser scanner essentially functions as a sophisticated 3D camera, enabling extensive coverage of the area in a remarkably short timeframe, while providing a detailed digital replica of the physical environment.
The successful approach will pave the way for the precise measurement of each tree and the cataloging of every item within a Digital Twin of Burgas' Re-Value area, and serve to create a plan and conceptual design to make this area an example of a nature-based solution for enhancing landslide-prone zone.
At the same time, it will also support the local partners in developing it into a beautiful park serving as a contact area with the sea.
